Today we welcome Delegates from 17 European states – from Azerbaijan to Nothern Ireland – to exchange on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Moreover, the European Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) and the European Disability Forum (EDF) sent delegates. Further eight Human Rights Institutions attend the meeting online. Together they form the ENNHRI CRPD Working Group.
Topics cover among others the abolition of special systems regarding the labour market, living options and education; legal capacity, guardianship and psychiatric coercion; and also violence in institutions.
The timing fits well: From Wednesday on the Global Disability Summit takes place in Berlin and a few days earlier the European Union was subject to audit by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva. The Concluding Observations are expected to be published soon.
