The Institute

The Institute’s Child Protection Policy

The Institute’s Child Protection Policy regulates the protection of children in its own work. In line with its principles and human rights mandate, the Institute is committed to respecting and promoting these guidelines for the protection of children in its own work.

The policy sensitises persons working directly or indirectly for the Institute to the protection of children and young people and supports them in implementing appropriate protection measures and mechanisms in their projects.

The rights of children and young people and their protection from all forms of exploitation and violence are regulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

At a glance:

  • The Child Protection Policy raises awareness of aspects relevant to child protection, for example in projects and research, workshops or other events as well as in communication and public relations work.
  • It formulates standards for the protection of children and young people and the realisation of their rights (including the rights to participation and to complain).
  • Important aspects of the directive and its implementation are the guarantee of a confidential and responsible reporting and complaints procedure as well as the investigation of reported suspected cases. The complaints procedure relates solely to complaints reported in connection with the Institute's work. Beyond this, the Institute cannot accept complaints or individual enquiries.
  • An internal Child Protection Team advises and supports employees in the implementation of child protection measures and structures.
  • Regularly evaluating and further developing the guidelines helps strengthen the Institute's child and human rights-based work, both in terms of its own work processes and its cooperation with other stakeholders.
