Review of Germany by the Committee on Enforced Disappearances

On the basis of the report submitted by Germany under Art. 29 (4) of the ICPPED

On 22 March 2023, the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances will hold a dialogue with Germany on the implementation of the Convention. It will consider additional information that was provided by Germany in July 2020 following the Committee’s 2014 recommendations. The German Institute for Human Rights submitted a written contribution to the Committee. It criticises in particular the fact enforced disappearance as a grave human rights violation and a complex and single offence does not yet constitute an independent criminal offence in the German Criminal Code as required under Article 4 of the Convention.
